Our History
Astro Films is the flexible packaging manufacturing division of Ismail Industries Limited, one of the largest and most prominent business groups in Pakistan. Established in 1988, Ismail Industries Limited has a diverse portfolio, ranging from food products and packaging to pharmaceuticals and power generation, along with significant investments in CSR projects. Ismail Industries’ food businesses include CandyLand, the largest confectionary company in the country; Bisconni, Pakistan’s fastest-growing biscuit company; and Ismail Nutrition, Pakistan’s only UNICEF-approved food supplier, with dedicated production for specialized food supplies to UNICEF and the World Food Program, battling malnutrition in Pakistan. Astro Films is the packaging division of IIL. It is one of the country’s largest flexible packaging manufacturers, supplying BOPET, CPP, and BOPP films. Ismail Resin is the second packaging business, manufacturing bottle-grade and film-grade PET resin. The pharmaceuticals division consists of Hudson Pharma, while power generation consists of investments in renewable energy as part of a consortium called Act Group.
Ismail Industries’ CSR projects include the provision of clean drinking water for underprivileged areas of Karachi, managed by the Hamid Ismail Foundation, and a fully funded girls education initiative comprising a school (Ismail Academy) and a college (Khadija Girls College). The group recently concluded a Tree Plantation Drive aiming to convert various barren parks and university grounds in Karachi into green fields, achieving our goal of planting 20,000 trees in December 2019.
